Marvel Comics Sued by Cryptologic
I read today that Cryptologic, who produce one of the world’s best online casino platforms, are taking legal action against Marvel Comics over breach of its licensing agreement. Cryptologic has a long-standing contract in place with exclusive rights to market Marvel games until 2013.
All was going well, but apparently a Marvel Comics subsidiary, Marvel B.V, allegedly signed a similar deal with rival casino software provider PlayTech. Clearly that makes an “exclusive” arrangement rather less exclusive… so I’m guessing this will be an interesting battle in the courts (unless there is an out of court settlement).
Is there anything for players to worry about? I don’t think so. If the exclusive rights remain with Crypotogic we’ll be able to continue to play the games we’ve enjoyed online for the past few years as normal. If PlayTech’s rights are upheld, then the competition between these two giants of casino platform software is bound to be intense – producing even better games for us to play based on the Marvel characters.
Watch this space. It’s bound to be a Marvel-lous journey.
