Genting Highlands Casino Malaysia Review 2022
Visit the Genting Highlands in Malaysia, the world's largest casino Hotel (First World Hotel) and highest altitude casinos!
Genting Highlands is the location of Resorts World Malaysia, the world’s largest casino complex made up of a variety of amazing hotels, casinos, and even a theme park. About an hour away from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Resorts World Genting Highlands can be accessed from the Kuala Lumpur – Kuantan Highway. There are a number of ways up to the Genting Highlands, including public buses, a cable car, and private vehicle driving access. (Kuala Lumpur itself is typically no more than a 12 hour flight for anyone in the world, making it very accessible for international travellers).
Driving up to the Genting Highlands is not for the faint hearted, as some of the trails are steep. Being so high up, the area is prone to mist and rain which can make driving conditions less than ideal. There’s a security checkpoint normally in place as you get close to Awana Skyway Central (the cable car station), from which you can slowly climb to the top of the Genting Highlands.
You have three cable car options to come up and down the mountain, dependent on your budget and available time. There is a standard gondola (with a regular floor), and there’s also an express gondola. If you’re a true tourist you might want to pay a little more and get the glass gondola, with wraparound views. You can buy one way or return tickets, or combo them so you could go express gondola one way and glass gondola the other etc. The glass gondola views are amazing, but if you have a fear of heights, then one of the other options might be better for you.
The Genting Highlands complex has two main casinos: Genting Casino in Genting Grand Complex and the SkyCasino in SkyAvenue Mall. Both are absolutely huge and offer a wide variety of casino games, in a wide variety of bet sizes and denominations. The main casino areas are tailored to local players, with low MYR minimums. International players (like myself) get additional access to various “international rooms” with passport. The international rooms are a step up from the normal, with free nibbles and tea / coffee from the casino to welcome you to the property. In addition to these casino rooms there are also VIP rooms. The VIP rooms are accessible via a casino host, and generally require qualified play to enter.
Casinos aren’t suitable areas for children, but they are catered well for here also with TWO theme parks available for them. There is the older Sky Avenue indoor theme park, with a variety of rides and games to play. There is an Adventure Park on the fourth floor of Sky Avenue, which offers alternative entertainment. And there’s also a NEW theme park outside which is called Genting Skyworlds theme park. Skyworlds has an endless supply of shops and restaurants, and some great rides too – but it’s probably not a lot of fun on a rainy day, so time your visit accordingly. Children and adults alike can buy various combo tickets to make the most of the available rides.
If you’re going to check out Genting Skyworlds theme park, make sure you download the Skyworlds app from the Play Store or Apple Store. This provides a full map for the property, and also allows you to book rides that you want to go on (once you’ve purchased tickets / combos of course). Note to self: if rides say you might get wet, read this as you WILL get very wet. This is not just a water park – but there is lots of water around.
If you like to shop until you drop, make sure you check out the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets which have hundreds of quality stores to choose from and find bargains in. The outlets are pretty close to the cable car station. There are also a large number of shops at SkyAvenue at the top of the mountain – but these are NOT bargain priced like the outlets.
There are a wide variety of accommodation options available in the Genting Highlands. It’s possible to spend many days here, but I expect there are a large number of day trippers from Kuala Lumpur (locals and tourists), and probably a few people who stay 2 or 3 nights. There are various Genting Highlands Luxury Tours available from Kuala Lumpur, or you can easily compile and book your own tours, transport, accommodation and attractions. Do what’s good for you! You can book stays at most of the hotels via the Genting Highlands website – but note that qualification for cheap or free stays is pretty easy when you’re onsite at the casino. On my last trip to the Genting Highlands it was possible to get accommodation for a few nights for literally bankrolling a few hundred dollars of bets. The largest hotel in the world is the First World Hotel in the Genting Highlands – it has 7351 rooms.
Crockfords Hotel is one of the newer hotel attractions (and is much more intimate than the First World Hotel), named after Crockfords Casino in London, UK, and designed to attract international players. It’s a 5-star hotel, with great reviews. Typical rooms have big cupboards, a washroom, toilet, big beds, fridges, and panoramic views with electronically controlled curtains. No matter where you stay in the Genting Highlands hotel complex, the views are magnificent. You’re literally on the “top of the world” here, and it’s really a fantastic experience. I haven’t stayed at Crockfords personally, but a friend reported that the toilet had one blue wall and one pink wall, and that they felt “very young” on it. The evening turndown service for the rooms includes a small dessert or chocolate placed on the pillows, and water is normally provided also.
Crockfords Hotel provides a buggy service between the hotel and shopping mall. It’s a small distance but helps to save you overdoing the walking. After all, the hotel staff want you energised to go play in the casino!
All of this works very well, assuming you have the desire to travel to Malaysia. As we’re only really just coming out of the Covid pandemic, some people are still reluctant to travel. Because there’s a lack of airline competition on some routes, airplane fares are not always “bargain priced” either – and we casino players like to feel we have got bargains – it’s in our blood! No problem. If this is the case I’d highly recommend playing online casino games in MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) or any other currency (like USD, GBP, JPY, etc) with the wonderful Dafabet Casino. Dafabet has thousands of slot games and table games (including live dealers), gives cashback on EVERY bet, and offers amazing sign up and reload bonuses.
If you do get the chance to visit Malaysia and the Genting Highlands, I’d recommend it. It’s not Las Vegas or Macau, but it is a fully fledged casino destination in its own right – with an amazing location.
